United StatesI'm currently an active member of the United States Army Reserve assigned to the 425th Civil Affairs Battalion based in Santa Barbara, CA. I've been in the military since November, 1988. I joined the Army Reserve to get money for school and to get some additional experience and training to help me pursue my carreer, which at that I was trying to get a position as a firefighter.
In early 1989 I went to Basic Training at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, TX then to Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio for AIT (Advanced Individual Training) in my MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) as a Medical Specialist. After returning from AIT I was assigned to the 6252nd USAH (US Army Hospital) in Ventura, CA.
In December of 1990 I was managing a Domino's Pizza in Newbury Park, CA when the 6252 was activated in support of Operation Desert Shield. The unit went to Ft. Ord, CA and started performing the mission that we had been training for; provide support for Silas B. Hayes Army Community Hospital while the 3rd Med Battalion went with the 3rd Infantry Division (Light) to Saudi Arabia. I was stationed at Ft. Ord until late April, 1991 at which time I returned home to Thousand Oaks.
